Knowledge of Danish is not required for the position. Applicants should have completed their PhD in Economics, Economic History, or a related discipline prior to starting. We also encourage seasoned candidates with a strong research pipeline and teaching experience to apply. The duration of the assistant professorship is six years including a tenure review.

About the Danish Institute of Advanced Study:
DIAS at SDU is a research center that aims to inspire ground-breaking ideas through the meeting of minds across the sciences and humanities. DIAS engages leading academics through its visitor program, weekly talks, monthly lectures, and quarterly colloquia. There will be a strong focus on talent development of young researchers who work on game-changing ideas. Eminent academics are appointed as chairs, and in that capacity form the backbone of DIAS as they catalyze activities within their field. More information about DIAS activities can be found on our website https://www.sdu.dk/en/dias.

About the Department:
The Department of Economics is an international department with a strong tradition for excellence in research and teaching within the various fields of economics. A more elaborated description of the department and the platforms can be found on the department website.

It is the aim of the department to conduct and disseminate research of the highest international standard, documented through publications in internationally distinguished journals, presentations at international conferences, dissemination with high visibility and broad societal impact, and securing external funding. Furthermore, the department emphasizes high-quality research-based teaching using the most relevant teaching methods to enhance students’ learning.

About the Historical Economics and Development Group:
The Historical Economics and Development Group (HEDG) focuses on teaching and research in Economic History with a strong quantitative focus. Our researchers aim to answer important questions concerning health, migration, demography, and development in general.
