The Economic Innovation Group (EIG) is a bipartisan public policy organization dedicated to forging a more dynamic and inclusive American economy. Headquartered in Washington, DC, EIG produces nationally recognized research and works with policymakers to develop solutions that empower workers, entrepreneurs, and communities.

About the Role
EIG seeks an Associate Economist to elevate its efforts to forge a more dynamic American economy. This role offers an early-to-mid-career research professional a chance to accelerate their development in a position that requires initiative, creativity and a commitment to excellence.

Exemplary candidates have expertise in EIG’s key issue areas, a diverse publication portfolio, and a passion for harnessing their research to effect policy change.

This position reports to EIG’s Director for Research and works independently and collaboratively with supervisors and teammates. They will interface closely with EIG’s policy, executive, and communications teams, and will perform the following duties:

40% Economic and public policy research
• Manage, process and analyze large datasets
• Conduct statistical and spatial analysis (Stata, ArcGIS, or equivalents)
• Analyze studies, methods, policies and proposals across multiple issue areas
• Read, review and build upon related research

40% Research and policy writing
• Independently and jointly create reports, policy memos, briefs, commentary and social media content translating data insights into actionable policy recommendations tailored to different audiences

10% Economic data visualization
• Utilize data visualization software to bring data to life, including through maps
• Train in new software and capabilities as needed

10% Outreach and network management
• Liaise with external stakeholders to share EIG’s work and build the organization’s network
• Respond to stakeholder, policymaker and media requests for data and information as needed

Qualifications
• Two years prior work experience in academia, research, business or government
• A PhD in a relevant field (economics, finance, geography, or public policy)
• Demonstrated excellence in quantitative analysis; proficiency in processing and maintaining large datasets; familiarity with datasets from federal statistical agencies; experience using microdata
• Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
• Expertise in at least one statistical software program (R, STATA, or Python)
• Demonstrated excellence in creative data analysis and visualization, GIS/mapping skills are preferred
• Additional unique digital skills are welcomed (programming; web-scraping or unstructured dataset creation)
• Detail-oriented, ability to take initiative and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced work environment
• Interest in and familiarity with policy demonstrated through prior work experience
• Deeply inquisitive about policy and economics demonstrated in past work, interests, passions and other associations

Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience. EIG provides generous health care and retirement benefits and a generous paid time off and holiday schedule. Please note: This position is based in Washington, DC. This is a hybrid position that combines regular in-person presence at our Washington, D.C. office with the option of two days of remote work each week.
