The California Independent System Operator (CAISO) coordinates diverse energy resources throughout the west into the grid for distribution to consumers. CAISO operates daily and hourly wholesale electricity markets to ensure enough power is available to meet demand. CAISO is a leader in renew able energy, and operates the Western Energy Imbalance Market (WEIM), which links electric utility areas from Canada to Mexico into a single integrated electricity market.
The CAISO’s Department of Market Monitoring (DMM):
• Performs economic analysis and reporting on performance and efficiency of wholesale energy markets.
• Analyzes proposed revisions to market rules and provides recommendations for prevention /resolution of potential market design problems.
• Monitors behavior of market participants, and helps develop and enforce rules to deter market manipulation or gaming.
• Works closely with the federal and state regulator who share regulatory authority over different aspects the western electricity markets.
Position requires strong quantitative, analytical and communication skills. Relevant education and experince includes applied economic analysis, operations research, statistical analysis, utility operations and planning, energy trading, regulatory and policy analysis. Hybrid and remote work options.
