Católica-Lisbon School of Business & Economics invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in Macroeconomics, to start, preferably, September 1st, 2025. We are looking for applicants with strong research potential (or track record) of top publications in Macroeconomics and the ability to teach effectively. Candidates must be able to communicate clearly both orally and in writing. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Católica-Lisbon is a leading European business school committed to research production at the highest level and excellence in teaching. Our programs are taught mostly in English to an increasingly international student body. About 75% of our students at the MSc level are non-Portuguese. In the area of Economics, we currently offer two bachelor programs, one full-time MSc in Economics, and a PhD Program, as well as several programs in Finance and Management.

Research Environment

Católica-Lisbon provides a vibrant research environment. The core research faculty consists of a diverse group of more than 40 members, with doctorates from top North American (including MIT, Chicago, Columbia, or Stanford) and top European (including INSEAD, LBS, Ecole Polytechnique, and Tilburg) programs.
In periodic assessments conducted by the Portuguese Science and Technology Foundation’s panels of international experts, the Católica-Lisbon research unit (CUBE) has consistently received the highest grade of Excellent. Faculty in Economics have published in journals such as the American Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Economic Theory, Journal of Monetary Economics, Journal of Econometrics, Journal of International Economics, European Economic Review, Journal of Public Economics, Review of Economic Studies, and Review of Economics and Statistics.

In 2020, PROSPER, a research center focused of economic policy evaluation, was established and it was awarded several research grants in international competitions. The center collaborates closely with the Economics faculty.

Living in Lisbon

Lisbon has recently been ranked the safest capital city in Europe. It is a thriving cultural hub with a vibrant restaurant scene, diverse artistic activities and sporting events, good public transportation, a public healthcare system, historic architecture, among the best weather in Europe, and easy access to world-class beaches.

Position Requirements

Applicants should have earned a PhD in Economics from a recognized school by the date of the appointment and must demonstrate the potential to publish in top economics journals. Salary is competitive, and funding for research-related activities, including travel to international conferences, is provided. In addition, faculty are encouraged to apply for research funding from the Portuguese Science Foundation and from European funding agencies. Tenure-track faculty are expected to teach the equivalent of 3 courses per year, in English.
