The FCC’s Office of Economics and Analytics (https://www.fcc.gov/economics-and-analytics) anticipates openings for economists in 2025. The current team of over 60 economists analyze telecommunications and electronic media industries and offer policy recommendations to the Commission. Working in a collegial team environment with attorneys and engineers, economists apply analytical and quantitative skills to rulemakings, mergers and transactions reviewed by the Commission, and Congressionally mandated reports. Economists may have opportunities to publish working papers and other independent research related to communications and Commission priorities. OEA maintains a seminar series and reading group.
Economists in all fields of applied microeconomics and industrial organization who communicate well and enjoy working as in an interdisciplinary environment are encouraged to apply. Experience in telecommunications, media, or regulatory policy is not required. Completion of a Ph.D. by the time of hiring is preferred. The current salary range is GS-12 to GS-15. Remote positions are available. Starting salary is based on educational achievements, work experience, research accomplishments, and duty station.
In addition to the positions described above, we seek economists knowledgeable in regulatory economics, including rate of return regulation, regulatory pricing, financial forensic analysis, and regulatory accounting issues.
We plan to interview qualified candidates in January 2025 virtually.
