Full Text of JOE Listing:
The Department of Economics at Union College invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the assistant professor rank, beginning September 1, 2025. We prefer candidates with expertise in the economics of gender, race, inequality, or industrial organization for one position. We also have some preferences for candidates who can teach environmental economics.
The successful applicant should have a Ph.D. by September 1, 2025, an established record of teaching excellence, a strong research program, and will be able to teach Introduction to Economics, Intermediate Microeconomics, or Econometrics as well as elective courses related to their specialization. Our teaching load is six courses over three ten-week terms, up to two of which may take the form of supervision of undergraduate theses. Tenure track hires have a one-course load reduction in their first year and receive additional research support. For more information regarding the Department, please visit https://www.union.edu/economics.
Union College offers many opportunities for both faculty and students to engage with multiple disciplines - and each other - in collaborative classroom settings, innovative majors, interdisciplinary theses, and unique research initiatives. The successful hire may develop courses in their area of expertise that could contribute to one or more of the interdisciplinary programs. Our complete list can be found at:

Creating and maintaining a welcoming and diverse environment is central to developing a rigorous and informed education in the economics department. We acknowledge that improving the diversity, equity, inclusion, and sense of belonging within the department and across campus is an ongoing growth process. Accordingly, department members attend professional development workshops related to DEIB on and off campus, support and mentor diverse students and faculty members, and are encouraged to include DEIB-related material in their courses and other student engagement where appropriate.
Required application materials: cover letter, CV, job market paper, research statement, teaching statement, and evidence of teaching effectiveness, such as peer observation reports or sample syllabi. In your cover letter/teaching statement, please include information regarding strategies you've developed for teaching students with academically and culturally diverse backgrounds.
Please submit all application materials as a single PDF file.
Please send questions and other inquiries to Younghwan Song at ecochair@union.edu. Applicants invited to the first round of interviews will receive a request for the contact information for three professional references.
