The C.D. Howe Institute is Canada’s leading independent, non-partisan public policy research Institute. The Centre is looking to hire a Senior Policy Analyst. Reporting to Jeremy Kronick, Vice-President, Economic Analysis and Strategy, and Director of the Centre, the ideal candidate will have:
• a graduate degree in economics – or a field with a strong economics component – and 3-5 years of applied experience;
• a solid empirical research grounding in Canadian macroeconomic and financial policy topics;
• an active interest in Canadian policy issues, with some background in Canadian history, politics, public finance and governance;
• superior ability to communicate in English, orally and in writing, to specialist and non-specialist audiences; knowledge of French would be an asset; and
• a firm grasp of Stata and/or other statistical software.
As a Senior Policy Analyst, your duties will include:
• authoring and coordinating key Institute projects, which you will identify and bring to the research team and Project Approval Committee for approval;
• supporting key Centre projects, as will be identified by the Director of the Centre, through research and drafting of reports, in collaboration with other Institute research staff, and within the timelines identified for the projects;
• leading the Institute’s Financial Services Research Initiative (FSRI), ensuring output targets are met, maintaining strong relationships with FSRI co-chairs, and being responsive to requests from FSRI members; and
• contributing to the Institute’s publication process by commenting on papers and paper prospectuses that circulate internally.
