The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business invites applicants for an Assistant/Associate Professor (tenure track) position in our Applied Economics and Policy area, with a school affiliation in the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management. Candidates would be appointed at the rank that is appropriate given their experience and performance. The intended start date of this position is July 1, 2025. The position will be based in Ithaca, NY.

Responsibilities of the position include establishing or maintaining a distinguished program of research (50%) and extension (50%) in agricultural production economics. The successful candidate’s research and extension program will focus on production economics with an emphasis on livestock agriculture and its intersection with environmental management to aid producers and agribusinesses in New York and beyond. The individual filling this position will be expected to work with multidisciplinary teams to evaluate economic opportunities presented by the climate change economy as well as the economics of management practices and investments to decrease greenhouse gas emissions at the farm-level. The successful candidate is expected to publish in top field and general economics journals.

The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics, Applied Economics, Economics or a related field. Scholarly interests in production economics preferred. Candidates should possess excellent communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with other researchers and stakeholders. Although not required, value will be placed on evidence of successful applied research or extension experience, grantsmanship, and teaching.

The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business (established on July 1, 2016) combines three Schools: the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management (Johnson), the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management (Dyson), and the Nolan School of Hotel Administration (Nolan). There are eight cross-College Areas, and this position will be housed in the Applied Economics and Policy Area.

Dyson houses a top-ranked undergraduate business program as well as graduate programs that award Ph.D., M.S. and M.P.S. degrees. Areas of faculty research include: food and agricultural economics; management; environmental, energy and resource economics; and international and development economics. Faculty members in the Dyson School frequently collaborate with colleagues in Animal Science, Natural Resources, Biological and Environmental Engineering, Computer and Information Sciences, Economics, and other units on campus.

This position is part of a cohort hire in Accelerating Livestock Innovations for Sustainability. The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) Roadmap to 2050 is centering environmental justice to achieve climate and sustainability goals via a cohort of hires within our Transdisciplinary Moonshots – opportunities for the College to collaborate on future-focused, cross-disciplinary scientific breakthroughs and to align research, education, and extension programs for greater impact and stronger connectivity. The Moonshot areas build upon core strengths in CALS, spanning the agricultural, environmental, life, and social sciences, with the goal of recruiting 27 faculty into the College over the next three years. This cohort will advance the CALS Transdisciplinary Moonshot in Accelerating Livestock Innovations for Sustainability. In addition to this hire, the cohort will include new faculty positions in Microbiology of Anaerobes in Animal and Environmental Systems (Animal Science) and Global Livestock Sustainability (Animal Science).

In compliance with New York's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $170,000 - $350,000. This pay range represents base pay only (for 9 months) and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, or other items.
