CSMGEP: Gustavo Suarez

Gustavo Suarez is a Senior Economist at the Research and Statistics Division of the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, DC.  His research interests lie in financial stability and the intersection between macroeconomics and finance.  Suarez has recently studied the link between financial institutions and sovereign credit risk, the determinants of runs in financial markets, and the role of central banks in providing liquidity during financial crises.  His work has been published in the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, and Journal of Econometrics.  Suarez also wrote a book on public debt with Leopoldo Fergusson and is currently preparing its second edition. 

Suarez graduated from Universidad de los Andes in Colombia and subsequently worked for the Colombian central bank.  He earned his Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University in 2005, when he joined the Federal Reserve Board.  He has taught courses in contract theory and public debt at Universidad de los Andes and was a visiting scholar at the Research Department of the International Monetary Fund.  For more information, please visit the Federal Reserve website.
