2025 Allied Social Science Associations (ASSA) Annual Meeting

MEETING FACILITIES

ASSA Headquarters Hotel is the Hilton San Francisco Union Square. The Co-Headquarters Hotels are the San Francisco Marriott Marquis and the Parc55. ASSA registration and exhibits will be in the Grand Ballroom of the Hilton San Francisco Union Square on the Grand Ballroom level. Sessions will be held in the Hilton San Francisco Union Square, the San Francisco Marriott Marquis, and the Parc55.  The sessions begin Friday, January 3, 2025, at 8:00 a.m. and run until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, 2025. 

Individuals unable to attend will be able to view selected AEA live-streamed sessions for free.  

PRELIMINARY PROGRAM

The entire preliminary program is on the AEA website, with updates made continuously. Printed programs will no longer be available.

EVENT APP

The ASSA Conference mobile app helps you create a personalized daily schedule, receive timely reminders and updates, easily find what need, take notes, and more. You will receive a username and password when you register for the meetings. This app will be available online the first week of December at www.aeaweb.org/conference

A networking module in the ASSA 2025 mobile app allows you to connect with other registered attendees with comments and messages.  To remove the commenting and messaging feature in the mobile app, go to "More" and choose "Login Settings." Then select "My Profile Settings" where you can change your "Active" status from "on" (default) to "off." Other registered attendees will not be able to message you via the app when your active status is off.

REGISTRATION

Registration will open on September 10, 2024. You will receive an email confirmation of payment with your registration ID number and the link to housing. If you do not receive a confirmation, email ASSA@vanderbilt.edu. Check your confirmation for name and affiliation accuracy. We recommend you bring your confirmation when picking up your packet at the Hilton San Franisco Union Square. Everyone must register, including speakers, discussants, students, guests, and administrators. Badges are required for admission to sessions, exhibit hall, luncheons, and other activities. Pick up your registration packet at the Grand Ballroom on the Grand Ballroom (GB) level of the Hilton San Francisco Union Square. On-Site and Advance Registration Booths will be open as follows:

*The on-site registration line will be closed fifteen minutes prior to closing each day. Early registration fee (received by December 3, 2024) is $240. Registration fee after December 3, 2024, and on-site is $290. Online registration or onsite registration are the only options after December 3, 2024.

REFUNDS

To process refunds for pre-registration, you must forward your cancellation confirmation of your hotel room to assa@vanderbilt.edu. We must receive your refund request by December 3, 2024. Refunds are not issued for any reason if requested after this date. If you register after December 3 or on-site, no refunds are issued.

HOUSING

The housing site will open on September 10, 2024.  See housing information. Each hotel room requires a separate registration ID.

PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

If you need disability aids or services to fully participate in the meetings, contact the ASSA Registration Office at 615-322-3509 by December 3, 2024. If you need a specially equipped sleeping room, inform the Official Housing Company when making your hotel reservation.

SPOUSE OR GUEST

There is no spouse program. Spouses or guests wishing to attend any of the meetings may register by December 3, 2024, for $70.00. The guest registration fee after December 3, 2024, and on-site, is $120.00. If your spouse or guest needs an affiliation on their badge, they must pay the regular registration fee. 

AEA CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAM

The AEA's Continuing Education Program is now held simultaneously with the ASSA Annual Meeting as part of the regularly scheduled sessions. The continuing education sessions have been renamed the “AEA Recent Developments Series” and are accessible to all registrants at no additional cost. The AEA’s Recent Developments Series is designed to help economists at all career stages sustain and enhance their expertise. Each session, presented by leading scholars in their fields, is tailored to explore the latest research across different fields of economics. JOB MARKET

Job Market Interviews have always been a central part of the ASSA Annual Meeting but will occur online once again for 2025. We hope that you will continue to take advantage of the JOE Network for your candidate profiles, job listings, and letter writing, as well as the application module that includes a tool for scheduling interviews. The AEA will continue to provide Signaling and the Job Market Scramble. The AEA Committee on the Job Market offers periodic updates on conditions in the job market, and has issued guidance and a timeline for the 2024-25 economics job cycle

HOTEL DIRECTORY

To have your name and hotel where you will be staying listed in the ASSA online hotel directory, you must register for housing through the official housing company by Thursday, December 12, 2024.  After December 12, 2024, or if you did not make your reservations through the official housing company, you may send us your name and location to be added by emailing assa@vanderbilt.edu. ASSA no longer provides printed copies of the hotel directory. You can access the online hotel directory through the ASSA mobile app. If you prefer not to be listed in the hotel directory, contact assa@vanderbilt.edu by December 12, 2024, to have your name removed.

WELCOME RECEPTION

Plan to attend the ASSA Welcome Reception on January 2, 2025, 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square in Continental Ballrooms 5 & 6. Please indicate if you can attend the Welcome Reception when you register. Heavy hors d'oeuvres will be available and one free drink ticket given at the door.

OMBUDS TEAM

An Ombuds team member will be onsite during the ASSA meeting.  The Ombuds office is in the Hilton San Francisco Union Square, Marina Room.  Details to follow.   For more information about the Ombuds Team, visit https://www.aeaweb.org/about-aea/aea-ombuds

CHILDREN'S PROGRAM

KiddieCorp will provide a professional children's program at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square in meeting rooms, Nob Hill 8&9 and Nob Hill 10. You may register online at https://form.jotform.com/KiddieCorp/assakids. If needing to register and pay via check, please contact assa@vanderbilt.edu. KiddieCorp has been in business since 1986. Team members are qualified childcare specialists.

Exhibits are in the Grand Ballroom on the Grand Ballroom level of the Hilton San Francisco Union Square. The hours will be:

We have selected Avis as our car rental supplier for the ASSA Meeting. Please refer to the Avis Worldwide Discount (AWD) # J947275 and call 1-800-331-1600 or reserve on-line for ASSA 2025 Annual Meeting. Discounts are good from San Francisco International Airport and all over the city.

PARKING

Hotel parking rates range between $55-$93 plus tax per 24 hours. Parking Rates are subject to change without notice.

TRANSPORTATION

  • San Francisco International Airport connects non-stop with more than 65 cities in the US and over 30 international destinations. Just across the Bay, Oakland International Airport is popular with low-cost airlines and in recent years has been one of the nation's fastest growing airports.
  • From San Francisco International Airport, taxicabs run regularly from designated taxi zones. Approximate fare to downtown San Francisco is $45-$60 plus tip. There are also numerous airport shuttles that run door-to-door service in shared ride vans. Approximate fare runs $14 - $17 per person. For public transit, BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) operates rapid rail service directly between the airport and various locations throughout the Bay Area. One-way fare from the airport to downtown San Francisco is $9.65 per person. Similarly, Oakland airport also offers many options for ground transportation.
  • Uber and Lyft are also available in San Francisco. Check the apps to see if cars are available nearby. A surcharge may apply for airport pickup/drop-off.
  • One of the best ways to see San Francisco is on foot. After all, San Francisco was rated as the "most walkable" city in the US San Francisco City Guides offer free walking tours every day of the week, on a year-round basis. If you prefer to be on wheels, Bay City Bike offers self-guided bike rental tours.
  • Public transportation (including the world-famous Cable Car) is largely served by San Francisco Municipal Railway. Basic fare is $2.75, except for the Cable Car which is $7.00. Each fare is calculated per person each way.
