Brigham Walker on equitable access to medical care
Do provider-targeted nudges reduce discrimination in medical appointments?
Brigham Walker is an Assistant Professor at Tulane University. He sat down for an interview at the 2024 AEA poster session to talk about equitable access to medical care. He and his colleagues conducted a nationwide randomized field experiment that sent mailers to primary care providers documenting discrimination. They found that White patients were more likely to be offered appointments, but about half of the advantage went away after the nudge.
