The early registration deadline for the ASSA Annual Meeting is December 3, 2023. Register now at https://www.aeaweb.org/conference for the lowest rates! The registration fee will increase from $195 to $245 after the deadline. Follow us on X (formerly known as Twitter) @ASSAMeeting to receive program updates and other developments before and during the meeting.

The preliminary program is available at https://www.aeaweb.org/conference/2024/preliminary. Printed programs will not be provided. A pdf will be available for download; however, the best option for navigating the meeting is the 2024 ASSA mobile app. Registered participants should watch their email for details. In addition to accessing the program, the mobile app allows users to find locations on hotel floor maps, comment on sessions, browse exhibitors, create a schedule in advance, read paper abstracts, follow X activity, and more.

More than 200 posters are included on the 2024 AEA program and will be available for viewing throughout the conference. Don't forget to allocate time for this thought-provoking part of the meetings. 

The AEA's 2024 Continuing Education Program will be held on January 7–9, 2024, at the Hilton Palacio Del Rio in San Antonio, Texas. Participants can choose from three concurrent programs. Topics include Development Economics led by Emily Breza of Harvard University and Supreet Kaur of the University of California, Berkeley; Digital Economics and the Economics of Artificial Intelligence led by Martin Beraja of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Chiara Farronato of Harvard University, Avi Goldfarb of the University of Toronto, and Catherine Tucker of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and Health Economics led by Ben Handel of the University of California, Berkeley, and Matthew Notowidigdo of the University of Chicago. Did you hear? The AEA has expanded its Ombuds program!  The new program features an independent team of professionals with a range of experiences and specialties.  Members can select the Ombuds who best meets their needs.  For more information, visit https://www.aeaweb.org/ombuds.

The new Ombuds Team will provide educational sessions throughout the year on topics of interest to AEA members.  To kick off the series, the AEA invites you to attend the following live workshop via Zoom, which will be led by the Ombuds Team as a benefit to all members. There will be two options to join the first workshop on December 15 to accommodate members’ time zones and preferences. The topics for future events will be guided by member feedback.

December 15, 2023 – “Sexual Harassment, Discrimination, and Retaliation: How Ombuds Support Visitors.” This workshop is designed to help members understand how ombuds can support members who experience sexual harassment, discrimination, and retaliation.

The Committee on the Status of Women in the Economics Profession (CSWEP) invites you to attend its Annual Business Meeting and Awards Ceremony Luncheon as well as the CSWEP Reception during the 2024 ASSA meeting, where the committee will honor the 2023 Carolyn Shaw Bell and Elaine Bennett Research Prize award winners. CSWEP will also host its first-ever reception for women and non-binary senior economists. The Committee on the Status of LGBTQ+ Individuals in the Economics Profession (CSQIEP) will host an in-person business luncheon, two research sessions, and one social reception at the 2024 ASSA meeting. The business luncheon will be Friday, January 5, 2024, from 12:15 - 2:00 p.m. in the Grand Hyatt and will feature a review and discussion of CSQIEP’s inaugural PhD student mentoring conference and the presentation of the committee’s Annual Award for Outstanding Research in the Economics of LGBTQ+ People. A CSQIEP session featuring LGBTQ-identified researchers working in macro/international economics will take place on Saturday, January 6, 2024, from 10:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. The other session (“Pink Papers”) will feature research addressing LGBTQ-related topics and will take place on Saturday, January 6, 2024, from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. A social gathering will take place on Saturday, January 6, 2024, from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. on site at the Grand Hyatt. All conference registrants are welcome to attend all activities. The application portal for the 2024 AEA Summer Economics Fellows Program will open December 1. This program allows graduate students and junior faculty to spend a summer as a member of the research community at a participating institution while engaged in a research project of their own choosing. Fellows are mentored by experienced economists both on scientific issues and career issues such as negotiating publications, the job market, and advancement strategies. The Committee on the Status of Minority Groups in the Economics Profession (CSMGEP) is pleased to announce that the application portal for the 2024 AEA Summer Program, to be hosted by Howard University in Washington DC, is now open. The AEA Summer Program is a prestigious program that uniquely enables students to prepare for the rigors of graduate studies—particularly at the PhD level—through two months of intensive training in microeconomics, math, econometrics, and research methods with leading faculty. The Thirteenth Annual AEA Conference on Teaching and Research in Economic Education (CTREE) will be held May 29–31, 2024 at the Lowes Atlanta Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia. The conference is hosted by the AEA Committee on Economic Education (AEA-CEE) in conjunction with the Journal of Economic Education. Plenary talks will be given by Peter Arcidiacono of Duke University and Sarah Turner of the University of Virginia. The Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank will co-sponsor the conference and host a dinner and speaker. Submissions will be accepted via the AEA online submission system. Submissions may be of individual papers, complete sessions of three or four papers, posters, workshops, or panels. Submissions of completed sessions are especially encouraged. The submission portal opened September 15, and the submission deadline is December 1, 2023. Expanding Diversity in Undergraduate Classes with Advancements in (the) Teaching (of) Economics (EDUCATE) Workshop. The AEA Committee on Economic Education (AEA-CEE) is pleased to announce the EDUCATE workshop to be held in conjunction with the AEA 2024 Conference on Teaching and Research in Economic Education (CTREE) in Atlanta, Georgia. The workshop will be conducted as a face-to-face and Canvas-supported workshop beginning Friday May 31, 2024, and concluding Sunday June 2, 2024.  The registration fee of $100 includes all meals during the conference and two nights of hotel accommodations for those that complete the entire workshop. The portal for nominations for the 2024 AEJ Best Paper Awards opens December 1 at https://www.aeaweb.org/journals/aej/best-paper-nominations. The awards will be announced in April 2024, selected from articles published in the 2021 through 2023 volumes of each AEJ.
