The American Economic Association and the economics profession were saddened to learn of the passing of Thomas C. Schelling on Tuesday, December 13 at age 95. A Nobel laureate who made profound contributions to public policy, Schelling’s work around communication and conflict informed United States Cold War strategy for decades. He was an economist in the Truman administration who later joined the faculty at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. In 1990, he became a professor at the University of Maryland School of Public Policy and Department of Economics and served as president of the AEA in 1991. Schelling was awarded the 2005 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences along with Robert Aumann.
