Econopalooza Summer Networking Event

 

Throughout 2020 and early 2021, CSWEP noticed a recurring concern from the participants in our mentoring events--a lack of opportunities to meet others in one's field during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, CSWEP decided to organize a virtual networking event in the summer of 2021, which we called "Econopalooza." In the first year, the event featured twelve sessions, with 60 senior and 200 junior participants, respectively. CSWEP is pleased to bring Econopalooza back for 2022!

The aim of Econopalooza is to provide junior researchers in economics with a chance to network with other junior and senior people in their field. Over the course of three days, we host multiple 75-minute field-specific sessions on Zoom. During each session, participants will rotate through two pre-assigned breakout rooms, with a senior researcher in the field in each room.  Junior participants are asked to prepare a 30-60 second “elevator pitch” to introduce themselves and their work to the other researchers in the room.

Participants should be junior economists whose work includes a substantial research component. This includes untenured faculty in tenure-track positions, and researchers at institutions with similar research expectations. This event is open to all who meet these criteria, irrespective of gender identity. If there is excess demand for this event, participants will be chosen on a first-come, first-served basis. 

We invite senior participants irrespective of gender identity to volunteer as well. Senior participants should be tenured in an academic department with research expectations in economics, or have an advanced role at an institution with similar research expectations. There is no expectation that senior participants prepare anything in advance of the event, and no expectation of any follow-up with the participants.
